We Must Keep Your Own Youth Essay - 1187 Words
Loud cheers erupt from the back room of the restaurant as a group of laughing teenagers bond after their final theatre performance. Older folks turn their heads as their crinkled eyes and lips turn upward at the memories of their own youth. Restaurants are places filled with happy people often celebrating some sort of occasion. Maybe parents are taking their kids out to reward them for good grades or a wonderful band concert. It makes sense, then, that everyone would be in jubilant spirits. Often times, though, these particularly large influxes of customers are the very reason my mood falls. A lot of focus is necessary to remember all tidbits of specific information for 30 different people, and stress can escalate at the drop of a hat. As with any job, keeping a cool temper in the midst of anxiety-induced mistakes is a necessity. Most days, I love my job, and I do not want to jeopardize it. In the moments I do mess up, my immediate reaction is to fix and apologize even if I am not at fault. Sometimes, I do not really care, but I must still appear as if I do. Acting in the midst of a mistake is a key skill in the art of food service. After initially being blessed with a group, the pressure is on. The first order of business is to attempt control my anxiety, but thoughts run rampant as I attempt to give the best possible customer service. What am I forgetting?
